Iced Caramel Macchiato Recipe

A layered espresso based coffee drink with milk that offers a buttery caramel flavor.

Please note that for our purposes a “shot” of espresso is 1.5 fluid ounces. Some may refer to a shot as just 1 ounce, but those are techically “short shots”.
We always use the “lungo” measurement of 1.5 fluid ounces per shot.

3 ounces (90 ml) freshly brewed espresso. This is two shots. Preferably 100% arabica beans, however some robusta blends are suitable.
5 ounces (150 ml) milk.
1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) vanilla extract
1 tablespoon (15 ml) caramel topping

You can make this iced drink a lot more fun by pouring some extra brewed coffee into an ice cube tray and freezing it into coffee ice cubes. Coffee ice cubes keep the drink from becoming diluted by melting ice and also refresh the drink as it is enjoyed.

1) Brew 3 ounces (90 ml) of espresso. This is two shots or a “double shot”.
2) Pour the milk over ice.
3) Add the vanilla extract to the milk.
2) Add the espresso to the drink using a large spoon, with the back of the spoon right above the iced milk as it pours. This keeps the espresso from mixing with the milk.
3) Drizzle the caramel topping in a circular pattern around the edge of the glass and then over the top.
